V:Music First Listen: HANA, ‘Avalanche’

How’s this for an endorsement? A few weeks ago Lorde described “Clay,” the debut song from rising alt-pop singer HANA as “too beautiful and sparkling for words.” Combine that seal of approval with a few dates on the road with Grimes and Lana Del Rey for this year’s Endless Summer Tour, and it’s clear HANA is the next in line for a very-necessary closeup.

Today her second track “Avalanche” premiered via NYLON, and it’s a chilled-out, percussion-led tumbler that let’s the voice of the Atlanta-born, Montana-raised artist rise to the forefront.

Here’s some more backstory: “Having spent years on the road in North America, perfecting her craft as a songwriter and performer, traveling state-to-state, year-round, it was in 2013 that HANA decided to take a break and re-assess her life on the road as a solo artist. Having sold her tour van, she moved into an old warehouse in downtown LA and began to write and record new music. It was there — under the guidance and encouragement of Blood Diamonds’ Michael Diamond, who co-produced ‘Avalanche’ — that she locked herself away and spent the next year learning how to record and produce music. It was during this period of isolation and reflection that she was able to fully execute her vision musically, thus creating these stunning new tracks that have since gotten everyone intrigued and talking about HANA.”

With a similar vibe to the likes of VERITE and Ryn Weaver, liftoff is inevitable.
