Well this morning we thought the shovel playing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” would be today’s best moment, but it turns out we were wrong. Earlier this week at a party in Brisbane, Australian DJ/producer duo Mashd N Kutcher decided to troll a room full of bass drop-happy party people, blasting out a bit of Spandau Ballet’s “True” just when they least expected it.
The crowd was properly riled up as the party escalated and was waiting for the drop, but instead got a bit of the 1983 New Romantic hit, which was released probably before any of these kids were born. The audience’s reaction of “ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” while the strobe lights keep flashing and one of the DJs hides to sip a drink is pretty great.
And bonus points for not going the traditional rick-roll route here. Maybe this is the start of a new breed of Spandau Ballet-type trolling.
