Over the years, many guitarists have performed the Star-Spangled Banner. Just last month, in honor of Independence Day, Guitar World even compiled a list of some of the better renditions, spotlighting takes by Slash, Steve Vai, and of course, the grand champion of them all, Jimi Hendrix.
Yesterday at the 2015 Flatland Fracas in East Bridgewater, Converge guitarist and Godcity Studio producer Kurt Ballou entered the hallowed arena of musical patriots with his own performance of the anthem. It was a good way to kickstart the BMX showcase, and Ballou even adds some of his own flair three-quarters of the way through.
Some details from the Converge Facebook page: “Watch Kurt of Converge play the Star Spangled Banner at the 2015 Flatland Fracas. The Flatland Fracas was put together by our pal Rick who used to run the great label Figure Four Records. He released music for Hatchetface, Dive, Opposition, and others.”
