The Who postpone remaining tour dates after Roger Daltrey contracts viral Meningitis

The Who are on hold as the band’s 50th anniversary tour has been postponed after frontman Roger Daltrey has contracted viral Meningitis.

The postponement means the rescheduling of 26 North American dates, including an October 29 show at Boston’s TD Garden. Of course, the good news here is that surely some Boston band will be playing as the Who that same Halloween weekend.

No make-up dates have been announced.

“We are very sorry to disappoint our fans in this way,” Daltrey says in a press release on the TD Garden homepage. “For the last four weeks, I have been in and out of the hospital and have been diagnosed with viral Meningitis. I am now on the mend and feeling a lot better but I am going to need a considerable time to recover. The doctors tell me I will make a complete recovery, but that I should not do any touring this year.”

Daltrey and Pete Townshend were hitting the road to celebrate the legendary band’s 50-year existence, but now the North American gigs won’t come before at least next spring, according to reports.

Says Townshend in a press release: “We are rescheduling all the shows for next Spring 2016. We apologize to all our fans who have supported us in the last 50 years. Once Roger is completely well we will come back stronger than ever and Roger and I will give you all a show to remember.”

From TD Garden: “Fans are instructed to retain their tickets to the show as all previously sold tickets will be valid at the rescheduled date. Refunds if required are available at point of purchase.”
