Bern Unit: Here’s a list of musicians and celebrities endorsing Bernie Sanders for president

Normally when we write about musicians interacting with politicians on these pink inked digital pages, it involves the performer’s music being used, either with our without their permission, on the campaign trail. But over the weekend Mic published a list of entertainers who have endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for president by signing an online petition titled “Artists and Cultural Leaders for Bernie Sanders”.

Included so far on the petition are Thurston Moore, Belinda Carlisle, Jello Biafra, Flea and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lucinda Williams, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, Billy Gould of Faith No More, Mike Watt, Bonnie Raitt, and others.

Biafra and Carlisle, together at last.

“We — the undersigned artists, musicians, and cultural leaders of America — are excited to endorse a new vision for our country,” the letter reads. It’s a vision that pushes for a progressive economic agenda. It’s a vision that creates jobs, raises wages, protects the environment, and gets big money out of politics. We endorse Bernie Sanders to become the 2016 Democratic Nominee for President of the United States of America.”

There are 126 signatures so far, and Mic notes that in 2012, “President Barack Obama gathered at least 194 notable celebrities for his re-election bid.”
