Festival O’Clock: Boston Calling releases set times, adds music-related art installations

UPDATE Sept. 24 @ 10 a.m.: Win tickets to Boston Calling via the V:List.

Got the time? Boston Calling does. Got art? The City Hall Plaza music festival has that, too.

With four days until the bi-annual music festival descends on City Hall Plaza with headlining performances by The Avett Brothers, alt-J, and Alabama Shakes — as well as a more impressive undercard of fast-rising bands and artists — Boston Calling this afternoon unveiled each act’s set time. The list of performances times, which begins at 6:15 p.m. on Friday with Gregory Alan Isakov and concludes Sunday night as Alabama Shakes close things out at 9:30 p.m., were first unveiled last week via the new Boston Calling app.

See the full run of set times down below.

In addition to the set times, Boston Calling also unveiled a few additional points of art to be displayed this weekend around City Hall Plaza, including “A History of Live Music in Boston” by local rock historian David Bieber, who recently outfitted the Verb Hotel in the Fenway. Here’s word from Boston Calling:

Yarn Bomb Art Installation HOTTEA: Boston Calling has commissioned popular Minnesota-based street artist HOTTEA to create a custom design along an 80-foot fence within the festival grounds. HOTTEA is known for using gorgeous, colorful yarn to create large indoor and outdoor installations.

Pulse Lighting Designs: For the third festival in a row, prestigious lighting designer Preston Hoffman of Pulse Lighting will light up Boston Calling. His work this September promises to amaze festival-goers with tree lighting, LED fixtures, large format moving lights and lighting enhancements in VIP. All of the designs will be synchronized with on-stage performances. Hoffman first made his mark as a Lighting Director on tour with Further, founded by original Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. He most recently lit the Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well Shows in Santa Clara and Chicago; he has also worked with John Legend and jam-band stalwarts moe.

“A History of Live Music in Boston”: Rock historian David Bieber will showcase a local music memorabilia exhibit entitled “A History of Live Music in Boston” in the VIP area. Bieber has tracked Boston’s musical heritage since the 70s, covering everything from psychedelic to rock to alternative movements. His exhibit at Boston Calling includes over 100 pieces of local music memorabilia. Bieber most recently made news for curating the music collection at the Verb Hotel.
