Boston in the Country: These Wild Plains and Tigerman WOAH join Stagecoach 2016 lineup

California country music festival Stagecoach revealed its Spring 2016 lineup this morning, and under the headliners like Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan are a pair of homegrown locals: These Wild Plains and Tigerman WOAH.

Going down over three days from April 29 to May 1, Stagecoach takes place at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, the same spot as the annual Coachella Music & Arts Festival. [Enter commentary about how SoCal’s country fest has better Boston representation than its rock festival.]

Meanwhile, Tigerman WOAH and These Wild Plains are teaming up for Country Club on October 17 at Cuisine En Locale, a new party that spotlights some of the area’s country-ish bands and artists.

On tap for next weekend’s party are the two organizers as well as Cask Mouse, American Echoes, and Cactus Attack.

“So many great country/country rock/country-leaning bands around Boston, we want a place and way to get folks to become a little more aware of what’s going on out there,” says These Wild Plain’s Ben Voskeritchian. “Less and less venues to play, we figured it was high time for a honky tonk in Boston. Being a southern transplant, along with another member of These Wild Plains, Rob Motes, it feels great to have a little bit of home right here.”

But Voskeritchian warns: “Not talking about any of that bullshit pop country radio stuff. We’re talking Waylon and Willie, Merle and George Jones. Hank Williams. Lots of great new country out there at the moment. Sturgill, Whitey Morgan and the 78s, Nikki Lane, Futurebirds, and that’s just a few: We’re just trying to carve out a little corner of the country/country rock world for ourselves here.”

Check out the full Stagecoach lineup below, and stay tuned for more on Country Club next week on Vanyaland…
