Dream Weaver: Watch Mike Portnoy play rock and metal classics on a Hello Kitty drum kit

Everyone loves a drumming gimmick these days. A while back we all marveled at a pug playing drums along to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” and now we have something that’s kinda the opposite. Loudwire asked former Dream Theater drummer and Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame member Mike Portnoy to bust out some rock and metal classics — on a child’s Hello Kitty kit.

Hilarity ensues.

“What the fuck, where’s my tour manager?” Portnoy asks, jokingly. “I specifically requested the Pokemon kit. I never play Hello Kitty… and a single pedal? I’m supposed to be doing Slayer tunes on this thing?”

Sure enough, when Portnoy does blast out Slayer’s “Raining Blood,” the whole kit shits the bed. Also in the skit, dubbed “Name That Tune”, Portnoy plays some KISS, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica, and shakes it up a bit with some Rush (obvz) and Led Zeppelin.

“Dave Lombardo wouldn’t be playing that shit,” Portnoy says.

But what about Lars?
