The Riff That Will Dominate 2016: Foo Fighters tease ‘Nothing’s Set In Stone’

The Foo Fighters have teased what is believed to be the band’s new single, tentatively titled “Nothing’s Set In Stone.” And while there’s a lot of uncertainty in that previous sentence, what we do know is what it sounds like, thanks to the band’s countdown clock on their official website.

The clock counts down to Monday, November 23, and a snippet of the song has been floating around the interweb. The 60-second clip below doesn’t offer more than the riff, but the riff is fairly mighty.

All hail the mighty riff.

The Foo Fighters ongoing countdown has also revealed a few added clues for new music, including visuals showing a fire pit, a suburban street, and some trees, while ambient sounds fill in for the riffage. “Foo Fighters fan site Foo Fighters Live have established that the ID tag on the music file reads ‘2nd century AD,'” writes Ultimate Guitar. “Many believe that the band is counting down to a reveal of a second series of Sonic Highways. Some have noted that the crest prominently displayed on the site is reminiscent of the Route 66 sign, prompting the speculation.”

Other potential new Foo songs that have spread across the internet rumor mill include titles like “Iron Rooster,” “Neverending Sigh,” and “Savior Breath.”

Though the riff has apparently been pulled, one YouTube user captured the clip for all the world to indulge.
