Marked & Loaded: Petty Morals’ guide to living it up right in the New Year

When we last checked in on Petty Morals earlier this month, they were living it up in the seedy depths of Salem’s Gallows Haüs and getting freaky deaky with some saucy Muppets. Now the Massachusetts dance-party brigade is pushing proper New Year celebrations back to January 2, when they release new EP Marked Women with a Vanyaland-presented release party at Great Scott in Allston.

With the turn of the calendar imminent and a sure-to-be-awesome 2016 on the horizon, we checked in with the first ladies of Boston rock for some tips on living well in the New Year. As a collective unit, Petty Morals subscribe to one of the many tenants of rock issued by the late, great Lemmy Kilmister: “If you think you’re too old for rock and roll, then you are.”

But how do they keep it hundred on an individual level?

Taiphoon, singer

“Drink lots of water to fight off kidney stones and Feel The Bern. Bernie Sanders 2016!”

LoWreck, drummer

“A wise and very attractive friend of mine — otherwise known as Jason Kendall, from Amazing Royal Crowns — once shared with me a mantra that he was using as a New Year’s resolution: “Assume Good Intent.” Every year since then, I have said that would be my resolution, trying to bring out the less judgmental optimist in myself. You know what I discovered? Fuck that shit. Everyone is bad and mean and selfish. New mantra: JUST DANCE.”

Chrissy V, guitarist

“Your friends will have your back –just look at my squad, they are pretty awesome. Fake friends, well they “build you up till you fool yourself that you’re something else and its like a curse,” as Joan Jett said. So, get rid of your fake friends. Oh, and make sure you stock up on plenty of cheap red wine and great eyeliner for 2016. ;)”

Allison Wonderland, keyboardist

“Don’t be afraid to be badass, but be sure to use your badassery for good, not evil.”

JC, singer

“Don’t sweat the small stuff and pretty much everything is small. Before you know it 2016 will almost be over and you’re gonna want to look back on it fulfilled with a smile. You only really get back what you give so reflect positivity and good vibes!”

Ivahna Rock, bassist

“2015 was a fantastic year, made that much better for me by spending much of my free time with the incredible folks at Boston Meditation Center. Gone are these days to be happily replaced with more days of helping others, living a meaningful life, playing more of the rock &; roll with my ladies — and yeah, like LoWreck says …JUST DANCE!!!”

And so it is spoken.

Get lubed up for Saturday’s party, which is also features performances by The Organ Beats, Watts, and Stars Like Ours, by watching the video for “Telephone Erotic”, the first track off the Marked Women EP. And those outside of Massachusetts, take note: The Rhode Island release party happens January 15 at Firehouse 13 in Providence, and the New Hampshire EP release party goes down at The Shaskeen in Manchester on January 23.
