So, This Is Happening: LCD Soundsystem will headline Coachella 2016

The rumors turned out to be true (as of now): LCD Soundsystem will headline this spring’s Coachella Music & Arts Festival.

That’s according to a report today in the New York Times, which confirms what Consequence of Sound had been reporting for weeks — that James Murphy’s electronic pop ensemble had been planning a comeback at the California music fest after a half-decade away from the stage.

Next year’s edition of Coachella goes down over two weekends, April 15 to 17 and April 22 to 24.

Earlier this year, CoS cited “multiple sources” in reporting that LCD Soundsystem were definitely planning a reunion for 2016, and that report was squashed even by the band’s own label. But after LCD Soundsystem dropped an unexpected holiday song last week titled “Christmas Will Break Your Heart,” the chances of some sort of reunion seemed to increase dramatically.

And now it’ll happen at Coachella, apparently, where LCD Soundsystem will join Guns N’ Roses as two pretty significant “reunions” set to fill out two of the three headlining slots.

The New York Times report states that a spokesman for LCD Soundsystem refused to comment for their story. But we won’t have to wait long for the proper reveal — rumors persist that the entire 2016 Coachella lineup will be revealed early next week.
