Rainbow Bar & Grill in Los Angeles announces public memorial service for Lemmy Kilmister

A week from today, fans of Lemmy Kilmister will have a chance to say goodbye to the beloved Motörhead frontman in one of his favorite places to unwind. The Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Los Angeles hangout long frequented by Lemmy, will host a 12-hour memorial service, and the venue made the announcement today on social media.

“Join us Saturday, January 9th as we say goodbye a dear friend and loved one,” the Rainbow writes. “We will open our doors at 2pm.”

Lemmy died on December 28, a few days after being diagnosed with “an extremely aggressive cancer”. He died less than a week after his 70th birthday. Shortly after his death, the Rainbow permanently reserved his seat at the bar, next to his favorite gaming machine, where he was often found drinking, smoking, and talking to fans.

For those here in Boston and not on the West Coast, there are rumblings of a party dubbed “Lemmyfest” going down January 16 at Cuisine En Locale’s ONCE Somerville. More details on that here on Vanyaland next week…
