The 2004 compilation Spiders from Venus was noble in concept — having female artists cover Bowie — but poorly executed. There were a few high points though, including Canadian singer/songwriter (and half-sister of Neil Young) Astrid Young stripping down the new wave classic “Modern Love” to a mournful acoustic lament. It’s a fantastic re-imagining.
