Boston Calling announces Friday slate: Sia, Sufjan Stevens, and Lisa Hannigan & Aaron Dessner

This spring, the chandelier-swinging will come early for Boston Calling, as Australian pop superstar Sia will headline the music festival’s Friday night slate.

While we’ll have to wait a few more weeks for the Saturday and Sunday lineups, Friday, May 27 is locked in. Joining Sia will be Detroit singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, and the collaborate project from duo Irish singer-songwriter Lisa Hannigan and Boston Calling co-curator Aaron Dessner of the National.

That leaves Disclosure and Robyn as possible weekend headliners for the festival, which takes over City Hall Plaza through May 29. Also performing are Odessza, Haim, Janelle Monáe, Miike Snow, City And Colour, Courtney Barnett, Palehound, Elle King, BORNS, the Vaccines, Michael Christmas, Lizzo, Christine & the Queens, Battles, Vince Staples, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and others.

Single day tickets for Friday, along with two-day weekend passes, go on sale tomorrow (Friday, January 29) at 10 a.m. via bostoncalling.com.

The on-sale arrives on the same date that Sia releases her highly anticipated new album, This Is Acting, which has already yielded hits like “Alive” and “Bird Set Free”. Her Boston Calling performance is one of only two stateside shows so far this year.
