An unlikely collaboration has provided one of the best new songs of 2016.

New York alt-pop singer Sky Ferreira has teamed up with Scottish rock veterans Primal Scream for the first single off the latter’s new album, and it’s a pure rager. “Where the Light Gets In”, which you can listen to below, is a glowing synth-rock track and the first taste of Primal Scream’s new record, Chaosmosis.

“The reason I like working with them is because there’s absolutely no pressure,” Ferreira says of the collaboration, via the NME. “It’s nice to walk in somewhere and they’re not like, ‘Okay, your label is harassing me about this and that.’ I set it up without anyone else involved, so we just sit and write in a room and there’s no pressure.”

She adds: “It’s also just really cool talking to [Bobby Gillespie]! The Jesus and Mary Chain is one of my favourite bands ever, so at first I was a little nervous. It’s really nice to meet with someone and not be disappointed by it, to have them meet every expectation.”

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come from Chaosmosis, Primal Scream’s 11th studio album, due March 18, and the follow-up to 2013’s More Light.
