Here Comes Your Band, Again: Pixies tease out new music for 2016

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Pixies” target=”_blank”>Pixies‘ 1991 album Trompe le Monde, and it looks like the famed Massachusetts band will celebrating with new music — or at least some sort of activity.

At least that’s the assumption after viewing a new teaser trailer the Pixies posted to YouTube this morning. The clip is a 20-second quickie showing the band members in and around the recording studio as distortion fills the air, and it’s closed out with the promising message of “Pixies: Coming… 2016”.

Back in 2014, the band released a new album, Indie Cindy, which serves as a compilation of their post-reunion sounds, pulling together three EPs issued separately between 2012 and 2014.

Last year, guitarist Joey Santiago confirmed new Pixies music to Billboard. “Sometimes we try [new songs] out live,” he says via the NME. “It depends how we feel — and that’s how we do it always; the set list always depends on how we feel. These songs are a little more precious, a little more shy to come out live.” The band debuted a new song called “Um Chagga Lagga” at a May show in New York.

Watch this new teaser video below, as well as our interview with Santiago and drummer David Lovering backstage at Boston Calling Music Festival, moments before they headlined the May 2015 edition of the City Hall Plaza music fest.
