Re-Connection: Watch Justine Frischmann discuss her artwork in advance of Volta NY

After spiky British rock band Elastica disbanded in the early 2000s, singer and guitarist Justine Frischmann retreated from the spotlight, focusing her creativity on her art and eventually relocating to the Bay Area. She’s had a relatively low profile over the past 15 years, but that could soon change.

Frischmann will be showing her abstract artwork March 2 to 6 at VOLTA NY, a highly regarded invitational solo project fair at Manhattan’s Pier 90. Tickets are available here.

To re-familiarize ourselves with Frishchmann’s work, GalleryLOG has released a short 83-second video that gives a glimpse into her new life. She briefly discusses her childhood in London and how it shaped her vision as an artist, and describes some of her techniques as an abstract artist.

Frischmann’s VOLTA description reads like this: “Based now in the Bay Area, Justine Frischmann (yes, former lead vocalist of seminal Britpop outfit Elastica!) imbues her abstract works with a beguiling and immersive ambience, from the balance of surface media to the floating back-framed aluminum panels bearing these compositions. Presented at VOLTA NY by George Lawson Gallery, San Francisco.”

In other Elastica news, drummer Justin Welch will be playing with Lush on the reunited shoegazers upcoming North American and European tours, and the band today released their first new song in 20 years.
