Everybody Relax: Snopes squashes the ‘Is Katy Perry really JonBenét Ramsey?’ rumor

For some reason, a 14-month-old video suggesting that Katy Perry is actually JonBenét Ramsey started making the internet rounds yesterday, suggesting that the “Dark Horse” pop star is actually the grown-up version of the six-year-old beauty pageant star who was murdered in 1996. The YouTube video has around 1.5 million views, and was picked up with a hearty dose of skepticism by the Daily News, Jezebel, ETOnline, and others. Hey, it was a slow Friday.

Of course, despite the newfound attention, we can’t imagine anyone actually believes in all this, but juuuuuuuust in case, Snopes has slammed the door shut on the conspiracy theory, giving a probably-not-needed-but-authoritative-anyway stamp of FALSE to the rumors.

“There are many logical flaws with these theories”, Snopes writes. “First, Perry was born in 1984, six years before JonBenét. Second, Perry’s childhood is well-documented… Finally, while the tragic case of JonBenét Ramsey’s murder remains unsolved, that doesn’t mean that she is still alive. Police discovered Ramsey’s body in her family’s basement on 26 December 1996, and an autopsy was performed not long afterward”.

Snopes also points out that the person who created the video, David Johnson, has also produced several others linking two seemingly unrelated people together, like “that Donald Trump is Joe Biden, [Jimi] Hendrix is Lionel [Richie], and Prince Charles is Sir Richard Branson”.

Truth is a hell of a drug. Watch Johnson’s video below, taken with a grain of [Michael Jackson popcorn .gif]
