Premiere: Kid Mountain show renewed urgency by slowing things down on ‘Doublevision Television’

Conveying mellow rhythms and dreamy tones, Kid Mountain can put the listener in a trance with their spaced out style of alternative rock. They bring a touch of ambient aesthetics and harmonious syncopation with their music and it has a way of gluing to the senses like gum on a shoe. All of the recording and production of their tunes is done by the band themselves, which is impressive as when listening to the clarity each song possesses. Combined with the enjoyable experience of seeing them live, they’ve built up quite a buzz in Boston over the past few years, and to continue those strides, Kid Mountain will be unveiling their second full length album Twinkles to the masses on March 8 for what is one of the most anticipated local releases of the year.

Today on Vanyaland, we are premiering “Doublevision Television” off the upcoming Kid Mountain album.

“The album was more or less a two year project that took four years,” guitarist Tyler Rosenholm says of the band’s follow-up to 2012 debut Happies. “Mostly due to the fact that a few the guys in the band were finishing their college degrees. We had scrapped a couple initial skeletons of the album because we thought it wasn’t that good. On Twinkles, we are a little slower than Happies. We thought we would try to make minimal, easy-to-play and sometimes monotonous music, but also something listenable and fun. Unlike Happies, the lyrical content is much less fundamentally emotional and more speculative and existential.”

Kid Mountain doesn’t have any shows officially scheduled for the imminent future, but they does have a few things in the works come April. When March 8 rolls around, download a digital copy of Twinkles off their Bandcamp page, and there will be physical copies available at their shows sometime soon. Until then, check out the track and dig in.
