Red Lined: Mount Moriah explain the inspiration for their new track ‘Davis Square’

Mount Moriah

Last month, we couldn’t help but notice that included on Mount Moriah’s new LP How To Dance was a heartfelt ballad called “Davis Square”. As their show tonight at the Middle East in Cambridge drew closer on the calendar, we also noticed an interactive map on the North Carolina old-time folk/Americana trio’s homepage that placed a pin right along Eastern Massachusetts — suggesting that the song was, in fact, based on the Somerville neighborhood.

So in advance of their show tonight in Central Square, we decided to reach out about “Davis Square”, and find out just what was behind this song.

“Someone very important in my life spent time there, had a fellowship at Harvard”, says vocalist Heather McEntire.

There you have it. Listen to “Davis Square” below via Bandcamp, and check out the map (note there is no pin on the New Hampshire mountain that shares the Mount Moriah moniker) after the jump. How To Dance is out now via Merge Records.
