Road Trip: Yacht, Speedy Ortiz, Lady Lamb and many others to play Vermont’s Waking Windows 6

There are two things we love very much, and both are destinations that make us very happy: One is South-By-Southwest (suck it, haters), and the other is Vermont (shout out to our true loves at Cabot).

The annual Waking Windows music and arts festival seems to combine the best elements of both, and we couldn’t be more excited. This year’s edition, the Winooski festival’s sixth, goes down from May 6 to 8 across a dozen venues in the Onion City, and the lineup is spectacular: Yacht, Speedy Ortiz, Lady Lamb, Waxahatchee, Hop Along, Protomartyr, the Besnard Lakes, Arc Iris, Guerilla Toss, Rough Francis, Low Cut Connie, and many others spanning pretty much every genre imaginable. Check the Facebook event page for the full list of participants.

Like SXSW, it all goes down among a network of downtown venues, from conventional live music spaces like the Monkey House to outdoor stages to breweries and restaurants (Mule Bar, Misery Loves Company, Waterworks Food & Drink and elsewhere).

The whole thing seems kind of amazing. Recent years have featured Future Islands (2011), Death Vessel (2012) and Titus Andronicus (2015), and it’s already been branded “simply the coolest music festival in Vermont” by Burlington alt-weekly Seven Days.
