Song Premiere: Worcester’s Zack Slik shows off vintage blues and jug band jazz on new single

When it comes to folk music these days, the main objective for an artist is to keep things fresh. No one wants to be accused of ripping off someone else, especially since the genre has been highly homogenized since the dawn of the decade. In Worcester, there’s a musician who plays a laid-back, front porch loungin’ brand of folk while putting his own unique spin on it. Zack Slik mixes vintage styles of blues and jug band jazz along with having a knack for songwriting that tells a story. He also plucks a variety of string instruments by using the banjo, mandolin, harp and guitar.

Off of his upcoming album Wachusett Recording Session, Vanyaland today premieres the track “When I Fall Into Your Eyes Of Blue”. It’s a rhythmic love song accented by Slik’s boomin’ and twangin’ croon. The whole album was recorded live in front of a group of friends at the Wachusett Recording Company in Princeton, and it captures a fun and mellow atmosphere; the audial quality courtesy of Wachusett owner and producer Michael Harmon is on point as well. It all results in a listening experience that the ears won’t want to let go of.

Slik will be putting on a weekend-long celebration starting on April 8 at The Barn Restaurant & Tavern in Pawlet, Vermont. The following night it’s a double whammy with a performance at the tap room of the Rapscallion Brewery in Fiskdale at 4 p.m. followed by the official release party at Nick’s Bar in Worcester where Slik will be performing with constant collaborator Helen Beaumont. It’ll be a dual release with them ringing in the gospel inspired album they did together titled Brother Zack & Sister Helen. There will be special guests joining in on the fray too. On April 10, folks in Leominster can eat and drink off their morning hangover while Slik performs during Sunday brunch at Rye & Thyme. Check out the track below and make sure to grab a copy of both albums this weekend.
