Spring Has Sprung: Converse Rubber Tracks Live returns with Deerhunter and Mini Dresses

The weather this week has been kinda crappy, but spring is fast approaching, and so is the Converse Rubber Tracks Live series. The free concert series returns to the Sinclair on May 11 for its inaugural event of 2016 with a nice one-two punch of chill guitar bands: Atlanta indie rock veterans Deerhunter and Somerville dream-pop duo Mini Dresses.

We’re told Deerhunter “hand picked” Mini Dresses to play the show, and we can’t blame Bradford Cox and crew. The band’s latest EP Four was one of the best releases to come out of Boston last year, and we did a bit of hand-pickin’ of our own when they played our Center of It All party at Center Plaza. This Rubber Tracks show arrives nearly a year to date.

Deerhunter, needing no introduction, were recently named the Number 1 Rock Band Right Now by SPIN Magazine. Their latest record, Fading Frontier, dropped in October via 4AD and was pretty much beloved by everyone with ears.

The May 11 show has no cover charge, you like all Rubber Tracks shows, you just gotta RSVP to get in. The link to secure your spot opens Thursday at noon, local time.

Last year’s Converse Rubber Tracks Live series featured free shows at the Sinclair from Big Boi, Future Islands, and Matt & Kim, as well as that batshit bonkers week in April that celebrated the opening of Converse’s new Boston headquarters and its local Rubber Tracks studio, welcoming Passion Pit, the Replacements, Slayer, Chance the Rapper and the Descendents and others to the intimate Harvard Square rock cub.
