No Rage Against The Machine reunion; just a de la Rocha-less supergroup with Chuck D and B-Real

This morning the world went nuts over a potential Rage Against The Machine reunion after a mysterious website, ProphetsOfRage.com, popped up with a countdown to June 1 and posters with “#TakeThePowerBack” showed up around the band’s hometown of Los Angeles. Adding to all that, Public Enemy’s Chuck D tweeted out a RATM live video, sparking speculation that the rap group and the rap-rock band were up to something. Turn it up, bring the noise, head out on tour.

Well, turns out they are up to something — just not what everyone had hoped.

Multiple outlets are reporting tonight that Prophets of Rage is actually a supergroup featuring Rage guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford, and drummer Brad Wilk teaming up with Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real.

Vocalist Zack de la Rocha is not involved, Billboard reports, so a Rage Against The Machine reunion this is not.

Instead, Prophets of Rage will play a June 3 show Hollywood Palladium, another gig at the Whisky a Go Go, and contemplate a summer tour. The band will perform songs by Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill.

More to come.
