Light In The Darkness: Hear the bands playing the third-annual Listen Local party

Faneuil Hall is a terrible, terrible place. But every so often, a cool show springs up down in our city's most vile tourist trap and drunken college playground, and more often than not, that show is Listen Local.

The third annual event, organized by Narragansett Beer and SXNE, goes down this Sunday, May 29 at Ned Devine's Irish Pub, and once again is an unofficial and independent afterparty component to the neighboring Boston Calling Music Festival across Congress Street at City Hall Plaza. It's curated by a host of local music tastemakers who all personally select a band, led by the tireless of Oldjack's Dan Nicklin.

"Really happy to be doing this for the third year in a row," Nicklin writes online. "Great bands chosen by some of the folks who play behind the scenes and help keep us all busy."

This year's show is another excellent assembly of local talent that wouldn't be out of place playing the big stage at the festival nearby. From the Americana-ish power-pop of the Longwalls to the dream-pop of Aüva to the aggressive tones of Raw Blow, the free show is worth checking out even if you aren't headed to Boston Calling, and there's no school or work the next morning due to the Memorial Day holiday.

For a full preview of the show, check out the bands -- and the curators who selected them -- below, via our slider. Keep it locked to the Listen Local Facebook event page for set times and updates.
