‘They were determined to kill us’: Angry mob attacks Radiohead listening party in Istanbul

An angry mob stormed into a Radiohead listening party in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday night, reportedly upset that the host record store was open during Ramadan and that some attendees were drinking alcohol.

According to reports, about 20 men barged into record store Velvet Indeiground, which was broadcasting Radiohead’s latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, as part of a “unique Radiohead worldwide event” in cities around the globe. Cited as “Radical islamists” on Twitter, the men used pipes and bottles in the attack.

Fact Magazine reports that one man was bloodied (see image below), but no one else was seriously hurt.

One of the owners of the shop set up his camera to stream the event, and captured the moments the mob entered the store, dragging attendees outside and closing the entire place down in minutes.

Reddit user identikitistheshit has written the following about the incident: “I was one of the hosts. I am the person that’s speaking in that video. I am the owner of that Periscope account. They were determined to kill us. We were beaten by more than 20 men with pipes in their hands, beer bottles were broken on our heads, I don’t even know how we made it out. I will share the details later guys. Just hoping that no one will die.”
