Listen to White Lung cover Guns N’ Roses’ pooch-killing classic ‘Used To Love Her’

On the surface it may seem odd for a band like White Lung to cover a song about domestic murder, especially a tune with lyrics like “I used to love her, but I had to kill her.” But then we all remember the time Slash said that Guns N’ Roses’ controversial 1988 ditty “Used To Love Her” was actually about Axl Rose’s dog or something like that, and then the cover makes sense.

Oh shit, wait, what? Maybe it still doesn’t?!?!

“Take it for what it is,” as Axl would say.

In any event, White Lung took on the acoustic GnR jam and gave it new life for a recent SiriusXMU session, with frontwoman Mish Barber-Way taking the lede and providing a female voice behind those familiar and still-awkward lyrics.

Word is, it’s her favorite Guns N’ Roses song.

Last month, the Canadian garage rock band released fourth album Paradise via Domino Records, and will spend the next few months out on the road showing it off. White Lung’s tour comes to Brighton Music Hall in Allston on July 30. Hear the “Used To Love Her” tour dates in full below, and get re-familiar with Guns N’ Roses’ Lies era. Meanwhile, Axl and the boys play Gillette Stadium July 19 and 20. Tickets are still available for the second show.
