New Addiction: Listen to Self Portraits’ slick alt-rock cover of Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’

Back in December, Boston alt-rock band Self Portraits caught our attention with gargantuan debut single “Be O.K.”. This week, they’ve flipped the script for their debut video, a slick cover of Britney Spears’ 2003 jam “Toxic” that’s generated more than 14,000 views on Facebook in roughly 36 hours.

The new sound is by design.

“Our singer, Jackie Foster, chose Britney Spears because Britney was such an icon in her day and Jackie grew up listening to her music,” Self Portraits’ manager Noah Gopen tells us. “Jackie thought that she could take an upbeat song like ‘Toxic’ and slow it down into a sexy and grungy track.”

Works for us. Watch the video below (click here for a direct link to the Facebook post), allow it to french kiss your ear holes, and hold out hope that the next Britney cover to come out of Boston is a new take on “Stronger.”
