Katy Goodman and Greta Morgan strip down a Buzzcocks classic to reveal its true heartbreak

Earlier this summer we hyped a new covers album by La Sera’s Katy Goodman and Greta Morgan of Springtime Carnivore called Take It, It’s Yours. The initial offering was the duo’s sterling take on The Replacements’ “Bastards of Young”, and now with the album’s August 26 Polyvinyl release date fast approaching, they’ve unveiled another cover, this time of the Buzzcocks’ classic punk ripper “Ever Fallen In Love.”

And sweet baby carrots, it’s incredible.

Goodman and Morgan strip away all the punk sneer from the Brits’ original, showcasing the deep-burn lyrical heartbreak from a lonely corner of a darkened room.

In the press materials promoting the record, the musicians note an overriding theme of scrubbing away a lot of the grime of the familiar classics in order to reveal “hidden messages that might be obscured by the tempos or the distortion,” says Morgan, who adds: “It definitely shows the durability of these songs… If we can re-imagine them as much as we did, it just shows how solid the skeletons of those songs are.”
