Praise By Lorde: Tove Lo wobbles back into our hearts with slinky new jam ‘Cool Girl’

When Lorde speaks, we listen. When she tweets, we read. On Tuesday night, the alt-pop singer warned us that Tove Lo was “casually about to drop the pop song of the summer”. Less than two days later, that truth has materialized in “Cool Girl”, a slinky, wobbly new jam from the Swedish singer.

It’s been nearly two years since Tove Lo crashed our playlists with debut LP Queen of the Clouds, and ever since, she’s remained there through a string of killer singles (“Habits”, “Talking Body”) and collaborations (Nick Jonas, Years & Years, Flume). On “Cool Girl”, she’s back on center stage, and the new track, led by a minimal house beat and the singer’s typically racy lyrical content, is hot enough to melt the rest of summer.

“Fukkin yeaaay!” Tove Lo writes online. “Butterflies all around, real happy to finally share ‪#‎coolgirl‬ with you. A few words to sum it up: don’t give away your feelings and you hold the power…? I call bullshit. Lets share some deep real love”.

Cool with us.

Catch Tove Lo at the DCU Center in Worcester on September 17 (opening for Maroon 5), check out our photo gallery from her performance at Royale in Boston last fall, and listen to “Cool Girl” below.
