High Marks To Prove It: The Maccabees announce break-up after 14 year, four album run

Following news over the weekend that 29-year-old rapper Bow Wow has retired from music, British rock band The Maccabees have also called it a day.

Writing to their fans this morning (Monday, August 8), the London quintet, which released fourth and latest album Marks To Prove It last summer, announced their split after 14 years together. The band’s debut album was 2007’s Colour It In.

“The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now,” the band writes in the statement, which you can read in full below.

The Maccabees stress there have been “no fallings out” and all leave the band behind on good terms. Marks To Prove It topped the British charts last year, so the band have decided to go out in their “creative peak”.

“It has been a rare and absolutely incredible time that we all feel very lucky to have shared,” they add.

Farewell shows will be announced shortly.
