The Radio Dept. release new song ‘Swedish Guns’, are maybe (probably) playing Allston in March

At the start of the decade, we got a relatively large dose of Swedish dream-pop group The Radio Dept. In 2010 they released third album Clinging To A Scheme, and followed that up with a rare live appearance in Cambridge, at the Middle East, in February of the following year (a second North American tour later in 2011, which would have brought them to the Paradise in November, was cancelled).

Five years later, history is starting to repeat itself, though hopefully without the cancellations. The conceptual art-pop duo of Johan Duncanson and Martin Carlberg are set to release new studio LP Running Out Of Love on October 21 via Labrador Records, and today have shared a moody new single in the shape of a reggae-ish anthem for revolution titled “Swedish Guns”. It follows 2015 single “Occupied,” and both are reported to be included on the new record. Listen to “Swedish Guns” below.

As if that wasn’t cause for celebration enough, it appears The Radio Dept. may be coming back to North America early next year. A lone concert date has appeared for March 7 at Brighton Music Hall in Allston, though ticket info has not been made public. No other dates have been posted.

Let’s hope that’s the first sign of a larger tour, and that the boys keep their promise. Fingers crossed.
