The Bronx’s Matt Caughthran performs on his back in the middle of a circle pit at The Sinclair

Ever since The Sinclair opened in late 2012, we’ve witnessed many musicians leave the stage and perform out in the crowd, up on the balcony, and even, with the grace and strength of a really long microphone cable, out in the front lobby and bar area. We’ve yet to see someone lay down and perform in the middle of a circle pit, with human chaos spinning around, but that’s exactly what The Bronx frontman Matt Caughthran pulled off Friday night.

The Los Angeles hardcore punk band played the Cambridge rock the night before appearing as Mariachi El Bronx at the Copenhagen Beer Festival at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. There were no circle pits to report on at Government Center over the weekend, so Caughthran was smart to take up The Sinclair crowd on the opportunity.

Sometime during The Bronx’s set on Friday, Caughthran laid down on the venue’s floor and asked the crowd to form a circle pit around him as he sang along to 2008 Bronx track “Ribcage”. He was joined by a few friends, and lived to tell the tale.
