It’s admittedly been a while since the words “hot new teenage brother duo from Long Island” have caught our attention, and yet that’s exactly what the Lemon Twigs have been able to do over the past few weeks. The pop group, led by Hicksville’s Brian and Michael D’Addario, roll into Providence’s Columbus Theatre on Wednesday (October 5) and Allston’s Brighton Music Hall on Thursday (October 6), but not before some heady praise and a killer late-night television appearance.
Last week, the Lemon Twigs made their network TV debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, bringing their multi-pronged, decade-spanning soft rock smarts to a national audience via summer single “These Words”. According to BrooklynVegan, bandleader Questlove gave the group on hell of a top-of-show plug, declaring: “If you take the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, Sgt Peppers by the Beatles and maybe Odessey and Oracle by the Zombies and filter it through a bunch of 15-year kids… That’s what this is.”
As Morrissey once said, heavy words are so lightly thrown.
“These Words” will be included on the Lemon Twigs’ upcoming 4AD debut album Do Hollywood, and that’s out October 14. This week’s New England tour dates are part of an extended run with the also-fantastic Sunflower Bean, and Thursday’s Allston show includes hometown support from Burglary Years.
That’s quite the Thursday night.
