Lysten Boston announces music networking event at the Plough & Stars

When Alyssa Spector of Lysten Boston was named booking agent of the Plough & Stars, we figured she’d continue to bring quality bands and shows to the intimate Cambridge bar and restaurant. But it hasn’t taken long for her to bring vital networking and education events into the room as well.

Lysten Boston will host the first Lysten To Us, an informal informational session on October 13, which is billed as a free event geared towards establishing lines of communication between bands and musicians and booking agents and venues. Among the local music professionals co-hosting and offering advice include Rock And Roll Rumble organizer and WZLX Boston Emissions host Anngelle Wood, Talisman Music Group founder and consultant Hailey Magee, and Level Exchange owner Lindsey Lerner.

Though there will not be a panel discussion, targeted topics of the evening involve around booking shows, promoting those shows, and artist development.

“I got the idea because I’ve been receiving a lot of booking inquiries recently where emails have no subjects, links to a band’s website or social media pages aren’t included, and some don’t even include a link to their music,” Spector tells Vanyaland. “I’ve also been dealing with a lot of bands over booking, and have found that I’m not the only one being bothered by this. I decided to channel my frustration to try to help these artists. I reached out to, in my opinion, some of the most knowledgeable women working in the industry here.”

The event starts at 10 p.m.
