People who listen to nerd-core hip-hop are losers, says Jeopardy!’s Alex Trebek

There have been a lot of musical references popping up in Jeopardy! lately (Coldplay’s Viva La Vida was the correct final round response a few weeks back), but as they usually surface during the television game show’s competitive rounds, Alex Trebek has kept his opinions mostly to himself.

Last night, however, he was able to shit all over nerd-core hip-hop. And he seemed to take great pleasure in it.

In the early segment, where each contestant gets to tell a truly fascinating story or anecdote about themselves, Susan Cole, a legislative librarian from Maryland, revealed she is a huge fan of nerd-core hip-hop. Trebek admitted he has never heard of it, but feared it didn’t sound like fun.

“I think it’s very fun,” Cole says. “It’s called nerd-core hip-hop. It’s people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love. Video games, science-fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. You know… it’s really catchy and fun.”

Knowing he usually gets the final word in these segments, Trebek went in for the kill — in his classic deadpan style.

“Losers, in other words.”

Damn. Where fake Sean Connery when you need him?

UPDATE 8:56 a.m.: There is already a diss track response.

But, as KTLA reports, Cole got her revenge, winning the game and taking home $22,600.
