Sod Off: Sleaford Mods drop new song ‘I Can Tell’ ahead of new EP out tomorrow

It’s been a bit since we’ve checked in with Sleaford Mods, who we dubbed two years ago, “the most important band in the UK,” and not only do they still retain the title, but none other than Iggy Pop has chimed in and crowned them, “undoubtedly, absolutely, definitely the worlds greatest rock ‘n roll band.”

The Nottingham duo comprised of Jason Williamson on vocals and Andrew Fearn handling the beats took a break after last year’s release of the breakthrough album Key Markets, but return tomorrow with a five track EP, T.C.R. Ahead of that, they’ve delivered a lyric video for one of the tracks, “I Can Tell,” which you can peep below.

“’I Can Tell” is basic politics for the discerning skeptic,” Williamson said in a statement about the piece. “The streets are cold and they’re squeezing us until we pop. Low earners first, then it’s onto the middle lot. We’re fucked.”

With lines like, “No point trying to use your colon/I see it coming out your mouth,” it’s hard to argue with the Williamson’s sentiment. And of course as they continue to grow, there’s some detractors like some rando on Twitter who calls himself Casual Front Politic and had the audacity to label the song as filler. The Mods weren’t having that at all.

T.C.R. can be picked up tomorrow on Rough Trade, and get ready, the boys are headed to the States in the spring with a full-length on deck to show us all how it’s done.
