Watch Scarlett Johansson emerge from a 14-second ‘Ghost In The Shell’ teaser trailer

Last time we caught up with Scarlett Johansson, she was fronting a super group called Sugar For Sugar and covering New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle”. We really didn’t think the actress extraordinaire could possible top that here in 2016, but now she’s captured our attention with a very brief flash in the teaser trailer for the new Ghost In The Shell film.

Paramount Pictures shared the live-action remake’s first visual look earlier today, and while we don’t have much to go on, it does bode well for the franchise. Clocking in at a whopping 14 seconds, the clip reenacts a fan-favorite scene from the original anime.

From the NME: “The story is set midway through the 21st century and follows the exploits of a fictional counter-cyberterrorist organisation called Public Security Section 9, which is led by a character called Major Motoko Kusanagi, now hailed as a Japanese icon. Johansson was cast as a character called ‘The Major’ last year, prompting accusations of whitewashing. The controversy was reawakened earlier this year when the first picture of Johansson in the film was released.”

We’ll see how this all plays out.

This latest Ghost In The Shell film, an extension of the manga comic book created by Masamune Shirow in 1989, hits theaters on March 31. Rupert Sanders, of 2012 Charlize Theron film Snow White And The Huntsman, is the film’s director.
