New Sounds: Listen to ‘Forever and Again, a Tribute to My Bloody Valentine’

It’s often said that Irish shoegazers My Bloody Valentine inspired countless musicians to sound exactly like them. This week, 25 bands emerge to do just that, though it’s the good faith result of the latest tribute effort from the tireless folks at The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records.

Forever and Again, a Tribute to My Bloody Valentine is available to stream and purchase via the Bandcamp link below, and stars more than two dozen noisy groups raising a sonic glass to Kevin Shields and company. The song selections range from the band’s classic late-’80s/early-’90s output to tracks from 2013’s m b v. And in case you were wondering, we think that’s San Francisco shoegaze band Astral doing the honors on “Only Shallow.”

“I still remember the first time I heard MBV,” writes The Blog That Celebrates Itself organizer Renato Malizia. “Went to a record store and bought Isn’t Anything after reading some reviews about the record and basically knowing the whole band history up until that point. But when “Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside)” began I was ecstatic, passionate, hypnotized, excited, I had never heard anything like that. And from that moment in 1989, everything would change.”

“And even today, whenever I listen to Isn’t Anything,” Malizia continues, “I have the same feelings.”

We’ve previously hyped tribute albums from the Brazilian website honoring Galaxie 500, the Cure, and Fugazi, but we’re perhaps most excited to give this a few spins around the fuzz pedal block.

Listen to it below, at its recommended “maximum volume.”
