You should probably listen to this incredible new Diet Cig song (it’s called ‘Tummy Ache’)

Sometimes we publish vague headlines and explain ourselves in the post copy and sometimes we get right to the fucking point and feel no need to mince words: You should probably listen to this incredible new Diet Cig song.

It’s called “Tummy Ache”, and paired with last week’s Slowdive single, we’re already feeling pretty good about our still-very-young Best of 2017 lists.

“Tummy Ache” is the first song off Diet Cig’s new album Swear I’m Good At This, which is out April 7 on Frenchkiss. As fate would have it, the New York duo play Brighton Music Hall in Allston the very next day, part of a 24-date North American tour that kicks off April 5 in New Haven and wraps May 8 in Santa Cruz.

By the end of the tour, Diet Cig should have a pretty heightened profile, because if “Tummy Ache” is a sign of just how good the new LP is, we’re all in for a treat. The infectious lo-fi guitar-pop jam rustles along as guitarist Alex Luciano painstakingly sings: “My stomach hurts, ’cause it’s hard to be a punk while wearing a skirt.”

In a press statement, via Stereogum, the musician goes into deeper detail about the song: “‘Tummy Ache’ is all about unpacking the feeling of approaching punk with radical softness, and the struggle when it’s not always read as powerful or cool or whatever enough. It’s the shout into my pillow when what I’m saying isn’t being heard, and a big old I FEEL YA to all the femme folks creating space for themselves in a world that wants to keep us quiet.”

Check out all their upcoming live dates after the jump.
