A New Hope: Listen to Beach Slang cover the Jesus And Mary Chain classic ‘Sometimes Always’

Waaayyyyy back in October 2015 Beach Slang kickstarted their mixtape series with volume one of Here I Made This For You, a five-song burst of covers that featured the Philly band’s take on tracks from Ride, Dramarama, and others. It continued Beach Slang’s impeccable knack for covers, and the song selection in itself was an impressive approach.

Volume 2 in the series is set for release next Friday (February 10) via Polyvinyl, and to get us all worked up, Beach Slang have released a cover of the classic Jesus And Mary Chain and Hope Sandoval alt-rock ballad “Sometimes Always.”

It’s a pretty faithful cover, with Sandoval’s vocals provided by Charlie Lowe, but some songs need not be heavily reworked.

Just as exciting as this JAMC cover is the Here I Made This For You Volume 2 track listing, which teases covers of songs by The Adverts, Tommy Keene, The Candyskins, and — oh boyyyy — The Modern Lovers. Beach Slang ripping through “Roadrunner”? One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Sick.

Beach Slang are currently on tour in Europe, but will head stateside next month for a slew of dates that includes a March 26 appearance at Royale in Boston, part of their tour with Minus The Bear.
