Depeche Mode modernize their past glory with sinister new single ‘Where’s The Revolution’

The new single from Depeche Mode is here, and it has an oddly familiar vibe while still sounding relatively fresh.

The thumping track is called “Where’s The Revolution,” and it’s the first taste of the influential electronic pop group’s new album, Spirit. The politically-minded protest song includes the line “You’ve been pissed on,” but we don’t think it has anything to do with the newly-elected president of the United States. Read the full lyrics after the video jump.

According to our previous Depeche Mode post back in October,Spirit was recorded in Santa Barbara and New York, and was produced by Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford. It’s out March 17; pre-order it here.

Depeche Mode, “Where’s The Revolution”
You’ve been kept down
You’ve been pushed ’round
You’ve been lied to
You’ve been fed truths
Who’s making your decisions
You or your religion
Your government, your countries
You patriotic junkies

Where’s the revolution
Come on people
You’re letting me down
Where’s the revolution
Come on people
You’re letting me down

You’ve been pissed on
For too long
Your rights abused
Your views refused
They manipulate and threaten
With terror as a weapon
Scare you till you’re stupefied
Wear you down until you’re on their side

Where’s the revolution
Come on people
You’re letting me down
Where’s the revolution
Come on people
You’re letting me down

Thetrain is coming
The train is coming
The train is coming
The train is coming
So get on board
Get on board
Get on board
Get on board
The engine’s humming
The engine’s humming
The engine’s humming
The engine’s humming
So get on board
Get on board
Get on board
Get on board

Where’s the revolution
Come on people
You’re letting me down
Where’s the revolution
Come on people
You’re letting me down
