Politically-charged Providence band Downtown Boys sign record deal with Sub Pop

What the world needs now are Downtown Boys. And Sub Pop agrees.

The politically-charged Providence punk band, fresh off performing at an anti-Trump rally on Inauguration Day, has signed to the iconic record label for a “universe-wide” deal. Which is good, because the universe needs a talking to.

Here’s word from Sub Pop, which accurately described this as “real news”:

“Sub Pop has signed the politically charged Downtown Boys to a universe-wide record deal! The Providence, RI-based band is currently at work on their label debut, which will be released later this year. While we wait for details on the new album, the band will play a series of U.S. tour dates beginning March 6 in Baltimore at Ottobar and ending March 24 in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right.

Highlights for the tour include a series of shows at SXSW March 14-17. These dates are bookended by two stand-alone performances: February 3 in Washington, DC at the Black Cat and a sold-out April 20 show at Philadelphia’s First Unitarian Church.”

Downtown Boys are said to be working on the follow-up to 2015 debut album Full Communism with Greg Norman and Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto. “And,” their bio reads, “they join the countless people filling streets and airports around the country to loudly proclaim #NoBan, #NoRegistry, #FuckWhiteSupremacy.”
