Over the past few years, Berklee College of Music’s Dorm Sessions compilations have tipped us off some of our favorite homegrown artists, like Grey Season, Amy And The Engine, Bent Knee, and The Rare Occasions. Thursday night (February 16), the 14-year series from Berklee Popular Music Institute and its student-run label Heavy Rotation Records issues its 12th comp with a release party at the Sinclair in Cambridge.

Making the cut for Dorm Sessions 12 are Vanyaland faves and participant in our 2016 SXSW party Lady Pills, as well as selections from emerging artists Flakes, Jack Martini (pictured up top, photo by Flaminia Reposi), Aversed, Mayah Dyson, Olivia Swann, and D-Will. Preview the compilation below, which kicks off with Lady Pills’ impeccable guitar-rock jam “Eat Them.”

Those featured on Dorm Sessions 12 will eventually be tapped, through Berklee, to perform at major festivals around North America, including New York’s Governors Ball, San Francisco’s Outside Lands, Chicago’s Lollapalooza, and Montreal’s Osheaga.

“The Sinclair show has become an integral part of BPMI,” says Jeff Dorenfeld, founding managing director of BPMI, in a press release. “It’s the first concert the students promote before taking on the business of major festivals. All of the artists on the album perform, and traditionally, at this show is where we pick which artist and group of students is going to represent BPMI at their respective festivals.”

So there’s a lot at stake, and we’re certain each band and artist on stage in Harvard Square Thursday night will bring their A-game. The release show starts at 7:30 p.m., is $5 for Berklee students and $10 for general admission, and everyone in the room gets a copy of the comp.
