In The Room: A look around Sonia, Cambridge’s newest live music venue and party space

Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

We’re exactly three weeks away from the opening of Sonia, the new Cambridge rock club from the owners of the Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub complex in Central Square. As we count down to the Friday, March 31 opening — an all-local rock and roll bill starring alt-rock misfits Doom Lover, garage rock gents CreaturoS, Berklee + Vanyaland SXSW party participants Aüva, and Evan Kenney’s new hardcore punk band, Bad Boys Club — we figured it was high time to get a proper look inside the space that’s filling the old T.T. The Bear’s Place at 10 Brookline St.

We’ve already posted a few quick peeks inside the 320-capacity venue, which will temporarily operate as an all-ages space as it sorts out its liquor license with the City of Cambridge, but below is our most comprehensive inside look yet. Check out the images below, taken by Nikhil Watson for Sonia, to get a proper feel of the layout, stage and bar design, entranceway, and other amenities that make it hardly resemble the old T.T.’s.

For one, the stage has been flipped to the other side of the space, facing Brookline Avenue, and the bar area placed to the left of the original (and remaining) entranceway. A new elevated section and soundbooth now sits where the T.T.’s stage once did, and the room has a much more wide open feel.

Check it out for yourself, and click here for all of Sonia’s upcoming announcements and shows, which also include appearances by Wobblesauce (April 1), Alex Wiley (April 7), and Landlady (May 11).
