Princess Diary: This edit seamlessly segues the end of ‘Rogue One’ into ‘A New Hope’

Note: Uhhhh, spoiler alerts (or something).

Chances are that when you saw Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in theaters back in December, you raced home and immediately put on Star Wars: A New Hope. And when the first of Disney’s new Star Wars anthology series is released digitally this Friday and on DVD April 4, chances are viewers will line up both films for uninterrupted viewing.

And it makes perfect sense, since Rogue One — despite arriving 39 years after Star Wars’ spectacular and historic 1977 debut — ends pretty much right before A New Hope begins. If you saw Rogue One, you know exactly what we’re talking about — we nearly shit ourselves on first viewing.

This week, a new mash-up from Vimeo user Barre Fong has surfaced online, and the nearly 10-minute clip takes the intense conclusion of Rogue One, right at the start of Darth Vader’s epic rebel slaughter, and lines it up perfectly with the opening few minutes of A New Hope, when the Tantive IV consular ship is under attack from an imperial star destroyer. The similarities in the set design and overall vibe are striking, and when C-3P0 says “They’ll be no escape for the princess this time,” there’s a whole new context to that paranoia and pessimism.

Yowza.

Watch the video before it gets struck down by Disney’s red lightsaber.
