Slowdive detail first new album in 22 years, share video for ‘Sugar For The Pill’

Last week we found out we’ll be getting a new Ride album in June. This morning it has been revealed fellow shoegazers Slowdive will be releasing a new album of their own, a self-titled eight-song LP due May 5 via Dead Oceans.

This will be Slowdive’s first new album in 22 years, the long-awaited follow-up to 1995’s Pygmalion. The band broke up that same year, but reunited in 2014. “When you’re in a band and you do three records, there’s a continuous flow and a development,” says Slowdive singer, guitarist and songwriter Neil Halstead. “For us, that flow re-started with us playing live again and that has continued into the record.”

Accompanying the Slowdive album news is another new track from the record, a moody dream-pop number called “Sugar For The Pill.” The video for the song was directed by in/out and is inspired by the new album’s art design, taken from the 1957 Harry Smith avant-garde film Heaven and Earth Magic.

The band is expected to test out “Sugar For The Pill,” recent single “Star Roving,” and possibly other new material when they appear at The Garage in London tomorrow (March 29), a show that will be broadcast on Facebook Live around 4 p.m. Boston time.
