The Downward Summer: New Nine Inch Nails music will be arriving very soon

Back in December Nine Inch Nails gave everyone a holiday gift in Not The Actual Events, an abrasive EP that positioned Trent Reznor as our new favorite Santa Claus. Now, it turns out that EP was only the beginning of a new era for the band, as Not The Actual Events is re-classified as the start of a trilogy of EPs.

“Did you know there’s a new top-secret Nine Inch Nails EP that will be released before the first shows we do this summer?” Reznor asks in an email to fans that went out yesterday (June 5). “Did you know Not The Actual Events was the first part of a trilogy of related EPs that will be released about 6-8 months apart? Now you do. More information on this shortly…”

Nine Inch Nails play FYF Fest in Los Angeles on July 23, and Panorama in New York City on July 30, so we could be getting a new NIN EP anytime between today and the end of next month. The final act of the trilogy will presumably hit sometime early in 2018.

Of Not The Actual Events, Reznor said at the time of its release: “It’s an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make… It’s an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”

We’ll see how this new stuff shakes out.
