New Sounds: Cut Copy take a psychedelic trip in flashy single ‘Airborne’

Perhaps inspired by the Boston Celtics signing Gordon Hayward, noted Green Teamers Cut Copy have this week released a new song called ‘Airborne.’ The track, their first for Astralwerks, continues the Australian electronic quartet’s evolution into more psychedelic territory, and the breezy pre-disco number effortlessly splashes and dashes over its five minutes.

It’s been four years since Cut Copy’s last proper album, 2013’s Free Your Mind, but the crew have remained busy since, issuing a series of mixes (2014’s Oceans Apart, 2015’s Forest Through the Trees, and last year’s ambient collection January Tape) and some solo efforts. This new track could be the start of a new era for the group, and the sounds at play make that possibly rather promising.

Cut Copy have a bunch of live dates scheduled this summer in their native Australia, but arrive stateside for a handful of festival gigs in the fall, including Maryland’s Luna Light Festival and San Diego’s CRSSD Festival. Check out all their live appearances below.
