New Sounds: Hercules & Love Affair team with Sharon Van Etten on the icy ‘Omnion’

Hercules & Love Affair are slowly unveiling one of the finest collaborative efforts of 2017.

Back in February, the electronic music project masterminded by producer Andy Butler returned with electro-house thumper “Controller,” which featured guest vocals by Faris Badwan of The Horrors. Today (July 17), Hercules & Love Affair are back with another collab, this time teaming with Sharon Van Etten on an icy synth daydream floater titled “Omnion.”

The track, which you can hear via the enchanting video below, takes its title from Hercules & Love Affair’s upcoming fourth album, due out September 1. In addition to contributions from Badwan and Sharon Van Etten, the LP also features Lebanese rock band Mashrou’ Leila and Icelandic group Sísý Ey.

Styled by Anna Pesonin, the “Omnion” video was directed by Crown & Owls, a London-based film and photography team that gave the following quote to Dazed: “The ‘Omnion’ video is an exploration of the nuances of gender and sexuality. A story of rebirth, the video follows a lone figure in red ascending a seemingly infinite staircase. Perspective play, scale, and negative space is used to reflect the complexity of identity. It was a pleasure to work so closely with Andy and draw on his love of the theatrical set design of Robert Wilson and combine it with our interest in minimalism and surrealism.”
